【李奧納多得獎感言:學authentic English】

李奧納多除了是位出色的演員, 也長期關注環保議題! 學英語口說最好的方式就是藉由這樣的authentic materials 來學習, 例如以下李奧納多的得獎感言!

恭喜李奧納多終於獲得奧斯卡獎, 以下是他的得獎感言(acceptance speech), 裡面談到了氣候變遷的議題...
Thank you all so very much. Thank you to the Academy, thank you to all of you in this room. I have to congratulate the other incredible nominees this year. The Revenant was the product of the tireless efforts of an unbelievable cast and crew. First off, to my brother in this endeavor, Mr. Tom Hardy. Tom, your talent on screen can only be surpassed (超過) by your friendship off screen… thank you for creating a transcendent (卓越的) cinematic (電影) experience. Thank you to everybody at Fox and New Regency…my entire team. I have to thank everyone from the very onset (一開始)of my career…To my parents, none of this would be possible without you. And to my friends, I love you dearly, you know who you are.
And lastly I just want to say this: Making The Revenant was about man’s relationship to the natural world. A world that we collectively felt in 2015 as the hottest year in recorded history. Our production needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow. Climate change (氣象變遷) is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat (最緊急的威脅) facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people (原住民) of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people out there who would be most affected by this. For our children’s children and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out (淹沒) by the politics of greed (貪婪的政治). I thank you all for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted (不要將地球視為理所當然). I do not take tonight for granted. Thank you so very much.

【MindMapper畫心智圖】

其實畫mind map 的免費網站很多, Coggle 也是其中之一 !




很早就想讓學生練習用平板繪製心智圖，用app的好處自然是省時有效率、顏色分類簡易好操作、儲存容易便於日後複習。所以康軒B6L1的閱讀"Teaching with Her Heart"就讓學生透MindMapper來繪製心智圖。一般英語課程繪製心智圖是利用Wh- Questions在pre-reading, during reading, post reading提問、整理重點、反思，甚至可以重述故事。今天課程介紹Reading Mama網站提供的Retelling Chart: Scoop法 來理解課文，這個方法強調problem, problem solved，可以訓練學生在故事中找出危機所在、處理危機的方式，並且應用在生活情境中加以驗證。


Teaching Procedures:
I Introduction to Retelling a Story through SCOOP

  Setting: Tell When and Where.
  Characters: Who is in the story?
  Oh no! (the problem): What is the Problem in the story?
  Order of Events: Tell the story In Order.
  Problem Solved: How is the problem solved?
II Silent Reading and Oral Reading
III Group Discussion
    Group members organize information.
IV Hands-on Activity
     Each group member takes turns creating the mind map.
V Sharing
    The teacher projects groups' work through iPad. If time permits, each group can retell the story with the aid of their mind map on screen.

課程反思：
學生第一次使用MindMapper，花了不少時間熟悉介面如何加圖、文字、上傳作品等，所以最後沒有時間作故事重述，有些可惜。接下來幾課希望繼續練習，訓練mind mapping方法與應用程式操作。

【中山女高觀課:學思達教學法】

和英語研究所同鞋七個人去中山女高觀課 (差一人就八仙過海 XD), 
英文和國文老師對教學很熱忱, 
勝勇老師在短短五十分鐘cover 好幾個句型和兩個考試, 時間掌控很好~ 
班級經營也不錯! 也鼓勵學生合作學習和思考~~~
輝誠老師鼓勵學生思考, 同時也學習權還給學生, 
用"猜燈謎" 的問答方式一步步引導學生對學習感到好奇!
課文問題的發想很有深度, 讓我們用特別的方式複習岳陽樓記。
雖然台灣的中學教育還是考試領導教學,
但相信這樣的教學法可以提升學生批判性思考的能力~~
運用在英文科, 還需要好好想想~~~
改良也是一個可行之道~
老師的教學印證了Benjamin Franklin 的名言:
" Tell me and I forget; teach me and I remember;Involve me and I learn"
傳統講述法只能讓學生學會5%, 但藉由involve 學生,
學習會更有效率!
老師也很幽默, 上課好多梗, 但又不脫主題!
兩位老師講義製作也很用心, 看的出來也花不少時間備課!
(BTW, 恰巧發現兩位都是師大研所畢業的校友, 呵呵~~~)
希望藉由觀課能夠更精進自己的教學技巧,
不管是現職老師還是要準備考老師的我們XD~~~

【News Journals:A good way to develop students' integrated skills 新聞日記】

北一女中葉中如老師 (iPad Ruth Teacher) 分享她設計的一個教學活動!
每週一節課到電腦教室做 News Journals
學生藉由此活動可以發展閱讀, 寫作和口說
(該堂課會有3~5 位學生上台用英文做一分鐘口頭報告),
老師可以讀到一個班上40 位學生寫的新聞日記.

分享清水高中賴筱嵐老師的新聞閱讀/聽力教學：
其實是老師的小確幸
高三下，不知道該做些什麼才能讓學生清醒一點。前一屆挑戰BBC English，這一屆乾脆天天讀外電報導+3分鐘新聞影片。
反正，排模考都在亂寫，講解題目、文法也只剩要考指考的在聽（繁星上的那些人魂都不在了）第六冊課文一下就上完了，沒挑戰性、很無趣（有學生連課本都不見了⋯Orz）。
改成新聞英文，搭配影片之後，哇噻，都醒著。
尤其是每天上課先進行固定單字小考50字，然後看新聞影片、再讀報導（或者反過來），學生閱讀的速度奇快無比，比讀課文有效率、也專心太多。
讀比利時恐攻的新聞速度超快，普通班之極其有效率，讓我嘆為觀止。
（平常讀閱測怎麼會那麼齜牙咧嘴）
無法像北一女那樣還能做News Journal，要他們寫，可能就讀不下去了（含淚）能每天上課自己小組讀一篇，不用我一句句帶讀，只消我解釋他們讀不懂的，我就已經很感恩了⋯
而昨天看到普通班一個學生，準備了一本新的筆記本，在我絲毫沒有要求的情況下，把讀過的報導整理起來、貼在筆記本上，我看到的瞬間，好開心。
趁此機會，天天查找有趣的、有意義的最新報導，對我來說也是一件好幸福的事情: )
而且，不用我一直講話，他們自己就乖乖小組四人一起讀，因為被限制不可查單字（超出能力範圍的字，我已經先給中文解釋），只能仰賴自己的單字量跟同學協助，再不就是從前後文推敲，偶爾聽到他們自己因為推測出意思而歡呼起來，心裡覺得甚是輕鬆愉快。
倒數68天。

【Animal Idioms: 動物片語輕鬆學】

幾天前轉貼英語 idioms 的教學方法, 以下則介紹一些英文常見的動物 idioms :

 pigs fly

Pigs might fly:
What are the chances that you’ll see a pig fly? Very, very low. Actually it’s impossible.
If you say ‘pigs might fly’ you are saying you believe something has a very, very low chance of happening.
For example:
Bob: I think my football team will win on Saturday.
Jack: Pigs might fly! You’ve lost every game this season 10-0.

hold horses
Hold your horses:
This meaning is quite simple. It just means wait. Be patient.
For example:
You shouldn't buy that phone yet because a new one is coming out in a month. Just hold your horses.
lion's share
The lion’s share:
Lions are big, strong and hungry. When a lion kills an animal, it eats until it is full. After the lion is full, the other animals can eat, but the lion always gets most of the meal.
‘the lion’s share’ is the most of something.
For example:
Steve and Dave built a house and then sold it. Steve got the lion’s share of the money, because he did most of the work.

cat pigeons
Put the cat among the pigeons:
If you put a cat in a group of pigeons, what will happen? The pigeons will be scared and angry, and will make a lots of noise.
If you do something that you know will cause a group of people to be scared and angry, and make a lot of noise, you ‘put the cat among the pigeons’.
For example:
We can’t afford all our staff. Five people will lose their jobs. When I tell them at the meeting it will put the cat among the pigeons.
cat out bag
To let the cat out the bag:
If you put a cat in a bag, what will happen? It will try its hardest to get out!
This is the same thing that happens when you know a secret. The secret tries to get out of you.
So, ’to let the cat out the bag’ means to tell someone a secret by accident.
For example:
I’m sorry but I told John about the surprise party. I let the cat out of the bag.

duck's back
Water off a duck’s back:
Ducks are always in water. Will a duck be upset if you pour water on its back?
No. It won’t even notice. It will ignore you.
People always call John lazy. Will he be upset if you call him lazy?
No. He won’t even notice. He will ignore you.
So when you criticise someone, but they ignore you, we say it is like water off a duck’s back.
For example:
She’s always late but I told her this dinner was really important. She was late again. It’s like water off a duck’s back.

和地球做朋友──環保教育一起來

前言
　
　　日前在網路瀏覽時無意間看到“The earth is sick. Our mother is in deep pain.”這句話時，筆者似乎聽到地球在痛苦呻吟。地球一如母親，無私地提供人們一切所需，我們當心存感謝，珍惜資源，不應恣意浪費，更不應該大肆破壞大自然。在本文中將與讀者們分享，筆者多年來在英語教學裡融入環保教育的結晶，從節約能源對話、環保問卷、節約能源誓約、資源回收學習單、每日一句英文環保守則、國際無車日小測驗 到環保繪本教學，無不深含著對地球之愛。
　
節約能源對話
　
　　編寫與環保教育的相關對話，引導學生關心節約能源的問題，並共同思考解決生活問題及提出節約能源的策略。

Mom:Peter, you forgot to turn off the lights again.
 
Peter:Oh sorry, Mom. I forgot again.
 
Mom:What I have been telling you about saving energy?
Look at the electricity bill for the last two months, 10,596 dollars!
 
Peter:Wow, so much!
 
Mom:And look at this water bill, 2,100 dollars! We've got to think of some good ways to cut down on the bills.
　
◎教學步驟
 
1.播放老師預先錄製好的對話內容或請一位學生和老師一起演示對話內容。
2.老師問“What's the dialogue about?” 詢問學生是否了解對話的內容。
3.老師帶學生朗讀對話，並解釋單字。
4.
將以下的問題寫在黑板上或做成學習單，讓全班分組討論：

　(3).How can Peter help cut down on the electricity bill?

環保問卷
　
　　利用簡單的環保問卷幫助學生省思生活習慣，逐漸培養他們的環保意識。以下問卷是針對省電、省水、省汽油及省紙等項目所設計的環保問卷[01]。

◎教學步驟
 
1.先發下問卷，讓學生花二至三分鐘填寫問卷。
 
2.將問卷分析影印發給學生或用PowerPoint呈現，讓學生了解自己的生活習慣和環保的相關性。

問卷分析：

Score 0 ~ 4　You are not turning green yet!
Score 5 ~ 9　You are pale green.
Score 10 ~ 13　You are medium green. Try harder.
Score 14 ~ 16　You are bright green, but do not stop trying.

Definition：
Green means “caring about the environment.”
節約能源誓約
　
　　學生填寫完問卷、核算總分、讀完問卷分析並了解自己參與環保的程度之後，接著讓學生填寫並畫出筆者設計的「節約能源誓約」，以增強學生在生活中實踐節約能源的決心。



 

◎教學步驟

1.發給學生每人一張「節約能源誓約」學習單。
 
2.請學生從五項節約能源誓約中選出三項，做為自己在每日生活中實踐的目標。
 
3.請學生將自己選出的三項誓約填入句中並畫在空格裡。
 
4學生完成之後，老師可將優秀作品張貼在教室公佈欄，時時提醒學生於日常生活中注意節約能源。
 　
資源回收學習單
 
　　運用資源回收學習單[02]讓學生了解，人們所有的能源、資源大部分皆是取自於地球，因此要物盡其用，在生活中確實做好資源回收及垃圾分類。

◎ 教學步驟
 
1.發給學生每人一張「資源回收」學習單。
 
2.老師可先告訴學生與垃圾分類相關的拼字，以降低學習單的難度。例如：wool, metal, glass, cotton, metal, wood, cardboard, chemicals, paper, plastic等
 
3.學生分組討論各項物品的組成原料，以及其是否可回收或不可回收。
 
4.在這份學習單中的物品，只有第五項a yogurt pot屬於塑膠類（plastic）不可回收。
每日一句英文環保守則
　
　　教師可以利用「每日一句環保守則」，教導學生環保的概念並了解落實環保的具體可行方式。

Day 3Reuse paper.重複使用紙張。
Day 4Reuse plastic bags.重複使用塑膠袋。

◎ 教學步驟
 
1.可將「每日一句英文環保守則」編製成A4的講義，每堂課教一則，和學生分享對每一則環保守則的看法或實際經驗。
 
2.每日張貼一則「每日一句英文環保守則」在教師個人網頁，或寫在教室黑板上讓學生隨時都能注意。
 
3.亦可將「每日一句英文環保守則」製成便條紙，讓學生方便翻閱及溫習。

國際無車日小測驗 
　
　　「國際無車日」的推動是要喚起人們，對汽車機排放廢氣對環境危害及污染的重視，並呼籲大眾以具體行動改善空氣品質，以建立更乾淨的生活空間。筆者透過一篇小短文及測驗，幫助學生了解國際無車日這項全球性活動。
 
◎ 教學步驟
1.
影印兩篇與「世界無車日」相關的中英文報導，例如：世界無車日和 Free Day。
 
2.讓學生閱讀兩篇文章之後，再發給每位學生學習單。
 
3.請學生完成學習單上的題目。
 
4.最後老師核對答案並做解說。
環保英文繪本 
　
　　繪本圖畫吸引人、文字流暢、故事結構簡單清楚，更富有積極的教育功能，能夠增加學習的趣味性。以下筆者簡介四本和環保議題相關的英文繪本，與學習者分享書籍內容，並幫助讀者建立正確的環保概念 。

來自澳洲伊恩基南先生（Mr. Ian Kiernan）發起了“Clean Up the World” ，希望藉由這個全球性的清潔環保活動，讓地球成為乾淨的樂土。
You can Recycle!
垃圾的處理方式有很多種，但是資源回收對環境清潔最有益處。可做為資源回收的物品有很多種，善加分類，就可以化腐朽為神奇喔！
　
◎ 教學步驟
 
1.鼓勵學生從繪本標題及封面預測繪本的內容。
 
2.可播放朗讀CD或由老師用豐富的聲音和語調唸出故事的內容。
 
3.和學生討論各頁圖片的內容。
 
4.鼓勵學生在閱讀後，想一想將如何在生活中實踐環保。
 
5.請學生寫閱讀心得，老師可提供以下的學習單[03]讓學生們填寫。
